About the Author
Lars Hagel is a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry and also Associate Professor at the University of Uppsala. Dr. Hagel has held different management positions within the R&D department and is now a senior scientific consultant of Pharmacia Biotech. He is a member of the board for The Swedish Centre for Bioseparations, and he chairs the Centre for Bioprocess Technology. Dr. Hagel's research has focused upon practical implications of chromatography theory and he has published a vast number of papers and chapters, with special reference to gel filtration.

Gail Sofer has been consulting with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies for the past five years through the Fast Trak Validation(r) group of PharmaciaBiotech as the Director of International Validation Development. A series of publications on validation have provided guidance to many in this arena. She is active in organizations such as PDA and ASTM.

Excellent reference!

This book bascially takes you through day 1 of drug manufacturing all the way to the end, when you have deal with regulatory. It also discusses analytical methods which was of great interest to me. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about this field.

Good book, but if you are deep involved in this kind of process, it will help you in no more than two chapters, what is rather good and many times unusual. If you are related, but is not a daily matter, this is the perfect book.

Blind Girl to Seeing Woman- great read!

This is a story about a journey that a woman took that changes how a woman looks at herself and at life.
Alice Hughes and her friend, Gabby come upon a party called Blind Girl Party during a night out of college rebellion. Blind Girl Parties are so secret, only the super elite of the wealthy know of its existence. The Blind Girl Parties are so erotic and sensual. It’s here that Alice meets the man that will change her life, her very existence. Charles Kent, is twice her age and is a mysterious billionaire and he wants Alice anyway he can have her. Charles quickly offers Alice an affair but tells her- he will never love her but he will “provide for her, pleasure her, and protect her “. Alice is enraptured with Charles and he takes her body places she has never been before. She thinks she can handle the terms of the affair without letting her heart be involved. The pleasures the two get involved in are so intense and so deeply erotic and passionate, Alice is falling deep. But soon, the affair is becoming unhealthy to Alice. She finds that Charles only wants her for one thing and one thing only. She finds things aren’t what they seem. Things come to a head and she ends up having it out with him , well, as much as Charles allows and she ends their affair , as much as it pains her because she had fallen in love with him and he never loved her. She left him and moved on
5 years later Alice has moved on and has found a new life and a new love when Charles pops up like a bad penny- what does he want now that she finally has a new love in her life and she seems to be happy? Charles is back and what mischief does he want? Alice feels the longing for Charles like she did before. Its like a drug and she craves him, his body and its dragging her back but she doesn’t want to her the love she has in her life. The twists and turns keep on coming. This story had my interest and attention from the first page. It really speaks to you because there is always a “Charles” in a woman’s life and it’s how you handle it. I loved how the author wrote this story and enjoyed the ending. This story reminded me of this quote- “ Love doesn't hurt. Expectations do.”

Different type of storyline.

I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Blind girl was about 2 college girls who try to sneak into a party but they are in for a surprise. Alice was a young 18 year old virgin who happens to land a billionaire who just can't give her the one thing she craves, his love. He goes out of his way in the worst possible way, to get her attention. She second guesses her engagement to a new man who loves her for her. Who does she end up with in the end, I'll let you read to find out.

I really felt the ending was not what I wanted. I was surprised to feel angry at the choice and how it was done. If she was so sad at the choice "she picked " she could have chosen differently on her own. I was just taken aback at how emotionally invested everyone was then bam, it was the end and it's not who or how I wanted it to go. How does the "bad guy" go to "good guy" in my head was beyond me.
Otherwise a good read I just was expecting a very different ending.

Was it love or fascination?

I received an ARC for an honest review. I love everything this author writes and this is no exception. It a little different than her other books. Two 18 year-old girls Alice and her friend Gabby crash a secret Blind Girl Party where 12 blindfolded girls chose from the wealthy men who drop their names in the fishbowls in front of the girl's gilded cage. Alice meets Charles Kent that night, a billionaire who whisks her upstairs at the hotel before she chooses him. He offers her a seductive affair where he will take care of her and protect her but never love her. She thinks that's okay for awhile but realises she needs more from him that he can't give so she leaves him. He says she'll regret it. Five years later Alice has a new life, a fiance, but still remembers Charles. Will she ever get closure? What did he mean about regret? Does she still or did she ever love Charles? You have to read this book!!!

Somehow beyond words :)

I am very specific when it comes to what I read.
These are the reasons/pros for buying this book:
1. Heard of Diane, but never read her books and heard this is one of her top books
2. I love descriptive & realistic books that take my mind into a blissful state
3. Not long and unbearable in length or tone
4. Amazing diction (choice of wording) that you'll literally want to quote so many parts of this book
5. Okay, there seriously isn't any other book that made me feel like this...

This author is now my favorite and I will be reading her other books. This is ironically beyond words. I am not sure how she does it, but somehow really makes you feel and doesn't quite make me realise I'm just reading a book.

I highly recommend, even if you're not a big reader.

Sure, there are people out there who think that books like this are just lightweight literary fluff ... such people reveal themselves to be the same undiscerning people who are blindly content to live on fast food slop, who never stop to relax and fully appreciate a beautiful sunset, and who mechanically motor off into the rat race without pausing for a long moment to nuzzle in the musky warmth of their lover's neck and hair, and to beam love for a long languid moment into their mate's eyes. For those cannot appreciate the subtleties such things, I feel nothing but pity. Go right ahead and wallow in your detached mediocrity ... and whatever you do, do NOT buy this book, because it'll only upset you to realize all the things you've been missing out on all these years. You've been living your life in the lowest possible resolution, and you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Anyway, this book is easily one of the most enjoyable and satisfying books I've read to date.

A Natural History of the Senses is a nonfictional piece of work sharing a wide view of all the five senses for eploring the world. Describing about the common situations when sensing the world and explaining how these senses work, Ackerman expands the perception of the senses.

The book is about humen, sensing the world through their five senses. Ackerman accomplishes to expand the readers ideas about senses. With an incredible amount of knowledge and thoughts almost like from the different planet, the book succeed to suprise even the most experienced readers.
The book handles all the senses one at the time with a wide variety of perspectives. One might say that the text loses its plot from time to time floating from a subject to another through a long path of thoughts. However, actually it is the best ability of the book of being different than any other novel. The text sucks the reader to its world with extremely detailed describing about experiences and feelings through aforisms, ideas, examples, and explanations of thefunctions of the senses. Five chapters and five senses in the book. One by one the texts discusses about every area what could be imagined when talking about senses in a scientifict and a secular point of view.

The colorfulness of the text is one of the main reasons, why this book succeeds to force a reader to imagine, go back to their own experiences and enjoy these feelings all over again.
There is no doubt that this piece would leave some-one cold with its rich scheme and colorful language. It might be hard to follow the thoughts from time to time, sometimes the text feels like brainstorming, and the message might be under the rock, but with immersing to the book with full passion the message comes out. Every chapter differs from another with their structures, which makes the reading experience to be enjoyable, altought, I had to concentrate sometimes to see the complete analogy. It was very hard to be critical because the book was written with great skill. What is the source of all this knowledge? Some of the arguments might be considered lacking important information or being just an individual experiences not shared by every person, for example one thing that got me was ”the one sure thing I learned about sophomore boys is that they’re all decibel and testosterone” (Ackerman, p. 186). This is just a generalization followed by other feelings about their music and taste, of which didn’t occur to her.

All in all I believe that with precise describing and new kinds of ideas this is a great work, a master piece that doesn’t have compeers. The book had a influence on me by opening my world to new kind of sensing. I would definitely reccommend to read this book wether just for fun or to see a complete thought about humen sensing the world around between the green colored covers.

Fascinating

This book is perfect for the Christmas season, when I read it. It examines the basic premise of Christianity; that Jesus rose from the dead, and what would happen to two thousand years of faith if that were demonstrably untrue. Along the way it discusses the bible, Judaism, Islam, and the politics of the Middle East. Jim Folan, S.J., is a real man who became a priest, not a construct, but a real man who any of us might know. His spiritual and emotional journey through the book is as good as a character on a novel gets.

The ending is a shocker. It's also a warning against false conclusions and over reliance on technology.

I highly recommend this book.

A fascinating and compelling story!

I really enjoyed this book. My favorite genre is archaeological and historical fiction, and it is not easy to strike the right balance between a compelling story, engrossing political drama and believable, realistic characters. This book has it all! I found myself drawn into the novel as Father Folan and Dr. Golban each struggled to embrace the significance of their find and protect it from destruction by the church and others bent on using it for their own ends. The ending of the book was bittersweet but perfectly appropriate. The dialogue was engrossing and kept me interested in the characters and their fate. I hope to read more novels by this author in the future.

A fast and exciting book to read

A surprise book written long before The DaVinci Code and its ilk. The premise is that a body is found in what is believed to be the grave of Jesus. The Vatican sends an investigator to see what this information means to the church. An exciting and fast moving book. It is a shame that Ben Sapir hadn't written many more novels before his death.

THIS JUST LEAVES ME WANTING MORE IN-BETWEEN TALES OF THE AVENGERS BEFORE THE HULK LEFT THE GROUP! COME ON, MARVEL! MORE, PLEASE!

I have always loved the original AVENGERS!However, the new AVENGERS comics that are out now are simply awful and make no sense from a longtime hardcore AVENGERS' fan-boy's standpoint and heart.(Come on...SPIDER-MAN, DR. STRANGE, DAREDEVIL, and WOLVERINE are now AVENGERS?..That's just lame and tired!)....

So, I thumbed through the many back-issues and found this one! Man, is this sweet old school comic book living at it's best! ...Now, this? This book right here? ...This is THE AVENGERS!

The premise for this incredible book is as brilliant as it is really simple: Go way back to the AVENGERS' first issue and write and in-between tale that takes place immediately after the landmark AVENGERS #1 comic book has left off but doesn't spill over into the historic AVENGERS #2 comic book!

The cool artwork & the writing of this book does indeed remind me of the original and amazingly fantastic STAN LEE/JACK KIRBY run of THE AVENGERS. Right down to the front cover, logos, and pin-up pages! A very loyal and faithful tribute to the two masters of comic-Dom, indeed!

Plus, the faithful continuity and personal characterizations of the original line-up is down pat: THE WASP is still acting like a horny little teenage flirt, THE HULK and THOR are still acting like two feuding brothers always trying to out-do, out-insult, or one-up the other, and IRON MAN is still worried about his armor giving out and his damaged heart being stopped in the process. ..And, of course, the heroic and exceptionally brilliant ANT-MAN is still being lost in the shadows of the more powerful and more popular AVENGERS' members..

But without giving too much away?..THE HULK steals the show..I've never laughed so hard.

So, I'll say it again...

MAN, OH, MAN!...THIS SHOULD BE A REGULAR COMIC BOOK SERIES! JUST GIVE US MORE STORIES ABOUT THE AVENGERS BEFORE THE HULK LEFT THE GROUP!

from very basic concepts that would be useful to anyone wanting to improve their health

I got this book recently as a research tool to try and find ways to help my 20 year old brother with Asbergers syndrome. While a lot of the information is geared towards children, it really has a wealth of information in regards to nutrition, from very basic concepts that would be useful to anyone wanting to improve their health, to autism spectrum-specific ideas. Since my brother thinks of himself as an "adult" and wants to make many of his own decisions regarding food he eats; and my mom (his sole caretaker and number 1 champion) works a full time job and has a limited budget, the "gluten-free, casein-free" diet often recommended by autism specialists is a bit unrealistic. However, this author, instead of insisting that readers jump right into all of that, suggests a 10 step plan, that involves gradually changing the whole family's diet over time, so you can start with the basic steps, and then stop there if you're getting the results you want and/or the rest seems too challenging for your lifestyle. Overall, it's been very informative as I've studied the intro and first 3 chapters over the last few weeks. I passed it on to my mom tonight with parts I thought would be useful highlighted. I'll post another review with more details about my brother's progress once she has had a chance to implement some of the suggested changes.

There is a lot of information in this book especially for folks who don't cook a lot.I cook from scratch most of the time and watch additives to all foods I buy. Information on vitamins was helpful. If your child has eating issues making some of these dietary changes will be a challenge. I will keep the book for a reference.

what a great read and a wonderful place to start for food therapy. My son with aspberger's has now been GFCF for 8 months and it is a dramatic difference for him. The little light in him just got brighter and brighter. Results began happening for him with in the first two weeks. If your son or daughter is on the spectrum, please consider this treatment for you child.
