M/M Romance, coming of age
I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

I really thought this book was short and sweet. You have unrequited love, someone searching for their place in life, new friendships and a family that is, despite being adopted, supportive.

This was a great book in that Jamie is clueless, but lovable and Levi is not clueless, but doesn't want to lose a friend. The two of them have stumbled through life together despite their friendship being a little strange - wrong side kid is befriended by kid from the right side of town.

Through all of the miscommunications, hidden looks, new friendships and drama - you get a couple of guys who create a great chemistry. Their friendship has lasted all through high school and even though they get some things wrong, their friendship isn't one of them.

Overall, this was mostly a story about finding and being true to yourself.

Quick and angst filled

Say It With Ink by C.C. Dado is a quick and angst filled. It’s the second in Dado’s Seattle Chronicles series.

Levi and Jamie have been best friends for years when they graduate from high school. It’s time for them to go to college, but Jamie is struggling to pay for it. His outside-the-box solution is to get a job as an exotic dancer.

I was sort of disappointed by the only scene that had Jamie dancing. To have Jamie doing something so erotic to make money for school, and then barely touch on it seemed like a wasted opportunity. It only seemed to provide angst for Levi.

The whole story seemed to be one giant session of pining. Levi’s been in love with Jamie for years, and has reached his breaking point. He can’t stand to be around Jamie and not acknowledge his feelings. It causes quite the strain in their friendship.

I am a huge fan of Levi’s tattoos. The cover really drew me in and the idea that Levi’s tattoos were silent tributes to his feelings for Jamie was so sexy.

I loved Sy and he was the perfect friend for Levi. Sy was out, proud and sassy as hell. I adored him!

I wasn’t a fan of the odd point-of-view changes. The majority of chapters were written through Levi’s POV, and I assumed the whole story would be, when out of nowhere there was a chapter in Jamie’s POV, then back to Levi; and there was a random chapter done in Sy’s POV.

Overall, though, the writing in Say it With Ink was pretty tight and I did like Levi and Jamie. The execution of their story was just a bit sloppy. Plus, after all the emotional build-up I was left…unsatisfied in the end.

No one likes to be left unsatisfied, but I’d probably give this author another chance. A more fully developed plot, and this would hit the spot. Levi and Jamie are sweet and young, and even without the payoff in the end, I enjoyed getting to know them.

Short but Sweet with wonderful characters!

Levi comes from the wrong side of the tracks. When he is paired up with Jamie for a history project, his life changes for the better. The friendship these two forge over the following years is an amazing bond. They are closer than brothers. But, Levi has secretly fallen in love with his best friend.

Jamie never considers that Levi is anything more than his best friend. They do everything together, even go off to college and room together. But, there is only so much Levi can take.

Levi reaches a breaking point and snaps, telling Jamie how he feels. Jamie is freaked out and Levi moves out temporarily. Seeing Jamie is just too hard.

Losing Levi is just what Jamie needed to make him realize that what he thought was friendship is actually so much more. He is honestly so clueless it is both sweet and frustrating. How he doesn’t see how Levi feels so much earlier is honestly beyond comprehension. But, he is just happy go lucky and never sees what is right in front of him.

Levi tugs at my heart. He has a rough childhood but grows so close to Jamie and his family over the years. I love that he had the support of Jamie’s family. It always makes me feel good to see someone get a second chance at a loving family life.

Theses characters are very well developed and I loved them both. The author also does a great job creating the secondary characters and I am definitely looking out for Nathan’s story. And I want more of Sy as well!

This is a short story and I thought it ended far too quickly. Just when Jamie and Levi finally kiss and want to start dating the book is over. I really needed more of these two! I loved seeing the development of the friendship and the realization of romantic feelings but there should have been a least a few more chapters where they figure out how to be a couple. Overall, though, a wonderful story.

About the Author
S�ren Kierkegaard�(1813-55) was born in Copenhagen, the youngest of seven children. His childhood was unhappy, clouded by the religious fervour of his father, and the death of his mother, his sisters and two brothers. Educated at the School of Civic Virtue, he went on study theology, liberal arts and science at university, gaining a reputation for his academic brilliance and extravagant social life. He began to criticize Christianity, and in 1841 broke off his engagement to concentrate on his writing. Over the next ten years he produced a flood of works, in particular twelve major philosophical essays, many written under noms de plume. By the end of his life he had become an object of public ridicule, but he is now enjoying increasing acclaim.�

Alastair Hannay�was educated at the Edinburgh Academy, the University of Edinburgh and University College London. In 1961 he became a resident of Norway and is now Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo.

Amazing Read

This book is a must read in order to understand the very lifeblood of Kierkegaard's philosophy and existence!! Its powerful, very revealing of the character himself in ways that his published books don't portray as clearly. He is very open and definite in his philosophy here and completely reveals his heart and faith. Please get this book even though it may be a long read. It is so worth it. I love how deep Kierkegaard goes in his thinking and how real he is with himself and all of us. He is no thinker to tickle your ears but a master at pricking the very spirit and heart of a person and goes so deep and yet reveals the bigger picture in ways that almost no person has done before or after him. This is a great book to read to understand more fully who the man is and what he believes, which makes all his other works more lively, clear and captivating!!!

Great insight and wisdom along with wry humor and penetrating observations

In his short life Danish philosopher S�ren Kierkegaard (1814-1855) wrote over seven thousand pages of papers and journal entries, enough writing to fill an entire bookshelf. This Penguin collection organizes Kierkegaard's journals into eight major phases of the philosopher's life, from Kierkegaard's early 20s to the last years of his life before he collapsed on the street at age 43. There is great insight and wisdom here. There is also wry humor and penetrating observations on 19th century European society and the ever-present existential challenges of human experience . To give a small taste of what a reader will find in the 600+ pages of this book, below are several of Kierkegaard's pithy entries along with my very brief comments:

From the chapter: 1834-1836: THE FIRST JOURNAL ENTRIES
"People understand me so little that they fail even to understand my complaints that they do not understand me." ---------- Do you think you understand Kierkegaard? What do you think the Danish philosopher would think of your understanding?

"Damn and hell, I can abstract from everything but not from myself. I can't even forget myself when I sleep." ---------- With reflections (and curses) like this, it is no surprise Kierkegaard is considered the father of existentialism!

From the chapter: 1848-1849: THE WIDENING OF THE RIFF
"No wonder I am thought mad. All that supports my endeavor is what might recommend it in eternity but secularly gives it a bad name and deprives me of respect. I earn nothing from it, it is not my livelihood or my job. And I am alone in a little country - where nevertheless a thousand priests are paid into thinking they are Christians." ---------- A pointed observation about established religion if there ever was one. And quite a statement of how the general public views a philosopher and original thinker.

THE TRUTH IS NAKED
"To go swimming one takes off one's clothes; to pursue the truth one must take one's time in a much more inward sense, divesting oneself of a much more inward attire of thoughts, ideas, selfishness and the like, before one is naked enough." --------- What do we in the 21st century have to unlearn to be better prepared to see the naked truth? Perhaps our first step would be to turn off our plasma screens and unplug our devices pumping in news or entertainment or music.

ABOUT MYSELF
"Slight, thin and delicate, denied practically all the physical conditions which, compared with others, could qualify me, too, as a whole human being; melancholy, sick in my mind, profoundly and inwardly a failure in many ways, I was given one thing: an eminently astute mind, presumably to keep me from being completely defenseless." ---------- Starting from his earliest year in the schoolyard, Kierkegaard had to do battle shackled with his frail, prematurely old body and a childhood poisoned by his melancholic father. But his mind was so unbelievably sharp. Thus, young S�ren was given the nickname 'The Fork'. Fortunately for lovers of literary philosophy, SK was also given a natural gift to write!

PERSECUTION
"In our times persecution just doesn't exit - because Christendom has been made so lacking in character that really there is nothing to persecute." ---------- I recall a Kierkegaard quote where he observed the prime predictable fact of modern-day society is the abysmal lack of character. I have taken this quote as a challenge at every phase of my own life.

SOCRATES - THE OTHER
"Socrates always talked exclusively of food and drink - but really he was talking and thinking all the time of the infinite. The others are always talking, and in the loudest voices, about the infinite, but really they are talking and thinking all the time about food and drink." ---------- Two rhetorical questions: What is the prime topic of your conversation? What is the truth for which you are willing to live and die?

INTROVERSION
"We are warned against introversion; you might just as well warn against Christianity." ---------- You don't have to be a follower of the Christian faith to see how we all must retain the integrity of our inner life.

I do not read these journal entries the way I read a novel, from beginning to end; rather, I read and reread one entry at a time. There is enough literary philosophy contained in this book to keep me going until I'm at least a 100 years old.

About the Author

Marvin Bittinger has been teaching math at the university level for more than thirty-eight years. Since 1968, he has been employed at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, and is now professor emeritus of mathematics education. Professor Bittinger has authored over 190 publications on topics ranging from basic mathematics to algebra and trigonometry to applied calculus. He received his BA in mathematics from Manchester College and his PhD in mathematics education from Purdue University. Special honors include Distinguished Visiting Professor at the United States Air Force Academy and his election to the Manchester College Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1999. Professor Bittinger has also had the privilege of speaking at many mathematics conventions, most recently giving a lecture entitled "Baseball and Mathematics." His hobbies include hiking in Utah, baseball, golf, and bowling. In addition, he also has an interest in philosophy and theology, in particular, apologetics. Professor Bittinger currently lives in Carmel, Indiana, with his wife Elaine. He has two grown and married sons, Lowell and Chris, and four granddaughters.

Judy Beecher has an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Indiana University and a graduate degree in mathematics from Purdue University. She has taught at both the high school and college levels with many years of developmental math and precalculus teaching experience at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis. In addition to her career in textbook publishing, she spends time traveling, enjoying her grandchildren, and promoting charity projects for a children's camp.

Barbara Johnson has a BS in mathematics from Bob Jones University and a MS in math from Clemson University. She has taught high school and college math for 30 years, and enjoys the challenge of helping each student grow in appreciation for and understanding of mathematics. As a Purdue Master Gardener, she also enjoys helping others learn gardening skills. Believing that the best teacher is always learning, she recently earned a black belt in karate.

About the Author

This is one of the finest works of anthropological and historical research on the Andaman Islanders written by a much respected expert in the field. For those already initiated, this book brings together a wealth of new research that questions earlier "narratives of contact" with the Andaman Islanders and argues for an approach that recognizes these communities as conscious agents in the making of the long and troubled history of the Islands since colonial times. The book's greatest strength lies in its capacity to weave archive and field together in ways seldom attempted before. Of particular significance for those interested in ethnographic detail, is Pandya's insightful engagement with the visual and material culture of the Islanders in particular those of the Onge and Jarawa. For the general reader, the book is an invitation into the initimate history of the life and times of a people on the brink of extinction.In sum it is a book worthy of both critical acclaim and general appeal.

What crazy cases! Is this what it is like for all private investigators?
I found it amazing to follow along as Leanne just unveiled more and more and more almost unbelievable facts and interviews. Totally bizarre stuff that had me at times laughing out loud, other moments shaking my head in outrage. This stuff really happens?! Yes, apparently all of it is true, right out of her case files and the inquest evidence.
All in all, a most entertaining read. More, please!

I ordered from Amazon and received a paperback copy of this book.

I have to say the story drew me in so that I read it in a couple of days! I liked the writing style...just the facts ma'am. I felt like I was reading P.I. notes and had an "inside" to the story. Also, the local references made me look at the map more than a couple of times wondering if I'd ever been close to some of the areas that were discussed in the book!

Of course I wished that the cases were solved in the end and I hope new clues are uncovered as a result of your writing the book.

1st Ed is wonderful; very explicit on what, how, why to DO

I have the 1st edition. Don't have the 2nd. I doubt there is much difference. That issue aside, don't hesitate to buy 1st edition. It's wonderful. If you plan on DOing -- not just passively reading, then this is an outstanding book. VERY explicit. On what? Very explicit on actually what to do, on how to do it, on why to do it that way, how to calculate results -- and with concrete explicit examples. This bit of discourse of mine I admit is primarily thinking about how to get input and output impedances for actively turned-on, working, electronic systems. But the insights and explicitness, even if most wonderfully illustrated in these impedances-measuring applications, are characteristic of the whole book. By the way, not that it matters much, there WAS a hardback of the first edition. That happens to be what I have, but it is the same ISBN and author. So, it's OK to get the hardback too if you should find that somewhere.

As for 2nd edition, like I say, I don't have that. Based on 1st, sure get the 2nd if you prefer. It's just that 2nd is more money. I've put into practice much of the good stuff from the 1st. I'd say explicitness is the keyword for this book. A great keyword for a do-er, but the explicitness does extend to the why too. So it's not blind how-to'ing.

Finally, perfect level for both a novice and a more experienced person. Novice lacks a perspective (which the book helps remedy) and more-experienced person may overlook some metrological subtleties (which the book also helps remedy).
