decent book

The instructions for weaving a cane seat were much better than the instructions for replacing a rush seat. For the caning section, he could have included some tips for what to do when strands break and better advice for avoiding out-of-whack patterns. Also, the directions for weaving the binder cane were not very clear. For the rush seat instructions, beware the instructions in the beginning where you are told to measure your chair to determine how much of the corners must be filled in in order to "square off" the chair. After you determine the measurements for the chair you are working with you are instructed to "mark off one inch." Don't do it! Mark off the measurement for your chair, not the example chair the author uses.

This is a good book for anyone starting out in chair restoration. Instructions are clear and there are many good illustrations.It gives good basic instructions but no variations in pattern.All in all, it is an excellant starter book.

Needs a section on different shapes of chairs!

I found the pictures in this book very helpful, but I really needed more help when my chairs differed from the ones the author was caning. (This is the only section of the book I use.) I've used 3 books and two videos as I have learned to cane (I'm still not very good at it; I take lots of rows out and on one chair had to rip out all of step 5 and most of step 6) and each one has different strengths and weaknesses. The color photos in this book were of great help, although I would have liked closeups of the caning along with photos of the entire finished chairs. I also wish the author had given more helpful hints on how to avoid problems!
I have concluded that the best way to learn how to cane is to take a class or apprentice yourself temporarily to an expert caner. But I'm having fun!

The four volumes contain 257 new and revised articles, with extensive bibliographies written by some of the most prominent people in the field of education. Recent issues and developments receive comprehensive treatment. The broadened scope includes such topics as AIDS education, public choice, athletics in higher education, social factors in education, uses and abuses of testing, schooling of teenage parents, education of mobile populations, and women's education in the Third World. Existing topics are also changed (e.g., "Teachers and Teaching" from the fifth edition is divided into two separate headings: "Teachers" and "Teaching Instructional Systems and Strategies"). The sixth edition also reflects the growth of education as a research and academic discipline in its own right. Therefore, a major category, "Disciplinary Studies" (fifth edition), has been deleted. A special appendix entitled "Doing Library Research in Education" describes selected secondary sources such as encyclopedias and dictionaries, handbooks, indexing and abstracting services, CD-ROM sources, and dissertations. References within each article provide suggestions for additional research, and See Also references guide readers to associated entries. This edition, like its predecessors, will be useful to college students as well as educational researchers and practitioners and is recommended for undergraduate, graduate, and professional collections. Older editions should be saved for their historical significance (the fifth edition, which Macmillan published in 1982, is the only one still in print).

Like World Book and Brittanica, this book allows for the same kind of brisk reading on tons and tons of educational topics in a microwave, but thorough, form. The references at the end give you some of the juciest choices to begin some "deep" research. Please use it in the library. Good Book, even after so many years

This is excellent book in the past, and if I considered it's usefulness today, it is still a very good book. You will be amazed it is still very relevant. What is missing are activity based costing, target costing and just-in-time accounting, with the last only explained in brief. It does not cover concepts of balanced scorecard or the like which is performance management and is only popular after this book is published. It is good supplement to any cost management or accounting textbooks because this provide the solutions to the questions, whereas textbooks don't. It helps those studying for financial accounting as well with the journal entry examples.

The book is well done with beautiful photo spreads and contains lots of Amber's unique personal commentary in the form of stories which I loved reading. I admire that Amber's voice really shines in this book from her humor to her brutal honesty about handling negativity and jealousy. The "10 rules to live by" though simple is something that many women forget to follow, 1. hold your head high 2. always smile 3. be kind to people serving you in any way (waiters, beauticians, anyone) 4. always listen more than you talk 5. know when to leave a situation when you're not wanted 6. never hide your needs, including food! no one likes a h(angry) girl 7. think before opening your mouth 8. no yelling 9. if you mess up- own it, apologize (pride kills relationships) 10. never be a hater- compliment other women! The dominant message that emerges in HTBABB that you should always hold your head high, act with class and focus on making yourself happy while lifting others up as well. Jealously and negativity is the most unattractive attitude a woman can have and it ultimately will hold you back from pursuing your dreams and affect your romantic relationships. HTBABB is the modern anthem of empowerment and a useful guide for any woman wanting to understand her feminine power and get what she wants out of life. I'm 100% team Amber.

Disappointing and useless

As a fan of Amber Rose, I was astonished (well, not *entirely* astonished) by how bad this book was.

Upon initially ordering the book, I was excited to hear autobiographical details of Amber's life - as well as her genuine advice on various topics. Most of the book is honestly unreadable. Although I obviously wasn't expecting the writing prowess of Steinbeck, it's written so badly that I feel like I'm reading one of my angsty diary entries from when I was in middle school. Also, the entire thing is triple-spaced and interspersed with blown-up iPhone selfies of Amber - stretching out one page of material into five pages.

Additionally, the "advice" (if you can call it that) is awful. Amber is rarely honest in the book - she spends every other sentence telling the reader to "love themselves" and "be themselves" - the type of advice you've heard for years. It's hardly revolutionary - which is extremely disappointing - as Amber prides herself on blazing the travels for embracement of female sexuality. I wanted to hear her true and honest thoughts on this subject - and instead, we get some ghost-written cookie-cutter mantra that hardly pushes a PG rating.

If you want an extremely large (and heavy) book filled with mediocre and pixelated iPhone photos of Amber interspersed with extremely vague feel-good compliments, then this is for you. If not, I can safely say you will be fine giving this a miss.

Yes muva!

I got the audible version of the book. I'm on my second round listening to it. Its good. I love her positive attitude in the beginning and the way she let's the reader know she never gave up on her dream and that anyone else can accomplish theirs too w persistence and vision. She talks about her childhood and growing up in Philadelphia. There's humility in this book which I appreciate. One of the things that I really appreciate about Amber Rose is that she's not a snob about her fame, she doesn't use it for selfish or vain reasons. She's always seem like a down to earth person. It's of value in our society nowadays. I love her raw nature and a stance on femininity and her views on anti slut shaming. I also appreciate the fact that she talks about where she has fallen short and about how she has forgiven herself and moved on and has not let that hold her back in achieving her goals. It gives the reader a sense of redemption. This book has an urban vibe. I'd recommend this book to young women. Fans of amber. I look forward to seeing how she grows in the media and where she will take her new found fame and upcoming. This isn't a tell all which I liked so don't expect gossip. But it is in a else a manual. And a bit of a biography.
