Great book; could use index of tools

Great book. Though each step mentions the tool used, one minor thing that would have been useful is an index of all the tools used throughout the book. In case anyone else finds that useful, here's the list I compiled of tools used:

Horrible

Awful (an alpha version at most):
- Go code that is not formatted with gofmt. Honestly?
- Sample code not working since for example github.com/nkozyra/api is empty? Why provide code for download that's not working at all? Where are the SQL statements? Expected to type them?
- Concatenating together SQL-Queries. Great idea to teach with code vulnerable to SQL injections in 2015. Wow. And that's not an accident, it's like 1/2 of all queries through the book.
- The Tip boxes are at strange places. After go get is used several times before in the book in chapter 3 comes the tip to set the GOPATH if you get an error using go get. As a reader you either know that anyway or you figured it out before this tip or you gave up. In general this show the bad structure of the book in general.
- SHA-2 for storing password as shown is the book is also a bad practice today. Use BCrypt - even more since the is a go implementation in the crypto subrepo.
- Next major mistake: Don't use math/rand to create the salt. There is crypto/rand for that!
- After using Parameters for SQL Query in the middle somewhere: Hurra, SQL Injections are back in chapter 6.
- Wrong: gomemcache is not a memcached implementation, just a client library for accessing memcached with go.

And so on and on...

Sorry, if that i got a little sarastic, but the book is really horrible. Don't buy it, it will teach you too many bad practices. This is not a book ready for publishing, it's close to a scam.

Good reference book to get you started

I purchased this book because I was about to start working on a REST API in Go.

I would not use this book to copy/paste the actual code provided (in fact so far I probably ignored 75% of the source code) but I do find it useful as a backup reference for defining and developing REST services. You could find most of the same info scattered all over the internet but having some of the best practises collected in one book saves you some time.

The book touches lots of subjects but doesn't go into too much details (because then the book would be at least twice as big) It does serve as a good starting point to search for more detailed information online about subjects you might have forgotten about otherwise.

The books starts of gently with a brief introduction to some of the REST principles and adds more complexity throughout the next chapters. The provided examples use popular libraries and technologies, e.g. in the routing chapter they provide examples with the Gorilla library.

This book slays

I read every book I can on Go (love to learn, love to code, love that classic tool we know as the computer), and this one is the best. It shreds. There are a lot of people giving this book poor reviews. Literally all of them are in bed with Big Coding and probably global warming deniers.

I recommend this book to all school children who want to learn to be good.

About the Author
Peter W?rfel studied physics at the University of Karlsruhe where he attended lectures in the same lecture hall in which Heinrich Hertz discovered the electro-magnetic waves in 1888. He obtained his PhD from the University of Karlsruhe and later became a Professor at the same university himself. His research activities started with ferroelectric thin films, mostly for pyroelectric infrared detectors. He always kept an interest in photovoltaics and has concentrated his efforts in this field over the last 20 years.

A fantastic book on photovoltaics

Writing a comprehensive book on existing photovoltaic (PV) systems is almost impossible due to the large literature present nowadays. However the basic physics underlying PV conversion relies on a limited number of concepts and physical processes, most of which are very subtle and often misunderstood in the PV literature. The Author does a fantastic job at presenting the physical processes involved in PV, with great care and conciseness, physical insight, and convincing thermodynamic and kinetic models. I've read this book cover to cover and absolutely enjoyed and learned a great deal from it.

The main topics treated in the book are:
- blackbody physics and solar radiation
- thermodynamic limits for sunlight conversion
- absorption in semiconductors and carrier transport
- overview of current PV technologies
- strategies to circumvent the Schockley-Quisser (SQ) limit

The book is not entirely up to date for what concerns recent efficiency records and types of excitonic and non-excitonic solar cells, but this knowledge can be gained by reading recent reviews and is not the focus of this text, which really aims at presenting the basic concepts in an accurate way. The only remarks I have is that the SQ limit could be presented in a clearer way, the chapter on transport could be made a bit shorter, and that more material could be presented on excitonic solar cells.
Device architectures and materials will change, but most of the relevant fundamental concepts are contained in this book, which prepares well the reader to understand the literature and perform research in this fascinating field.

*Overall this book is a real gem anyone interested in photovoltaics should own!*

One of the Best PV Cell Textbook

This book explains the most important concepts in an elegant way and derives all important equations step by step that is very easy to follow. Very practical and useful for both students and engineers in PV field. This is an excellent and well written classical textbook as well as reference book for anyone who is interested in PV cells. A must have book for PV engineers.

Bought this as a second source book for a class ...

Bought this as a second source book for a class I took in Spring 2016 in Solar physics. The material is sound, but the author used non-standard nomenclature for variables and units, which meant (at least to me), I had to read a section, then basically translate to nomenclature I'm used to, and so on.

About the Author

The Reys were born in Hamburg, Germany. Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) met his wife-to-be, Margret (1906-1996), at a party in her father’s home in Germany; when he first caught a glimpse of her, she was sliding down the banister. In their twenties and thirties they lived in Paris and in Rio de Janeiro, where Hans sold bathtubs in villages along the Amazon River. Eventually Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the Reys’ home and community. Throughout their lives the Reys created many lively books together, including SPOTTY, PRETZEL, and lift-the-flap books such as HOW DO YOU GET THERE? The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and CURIOUS GEORGE was published in 1941. Their incorrigible little monkey has become an American icon, selling millions of books and capturing the hearts of readers everywhere. CURIOUS GEORGE has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian.
