Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run Series Book 7), by Abigail Roux

After having their faces plastered across the news during a high-profile case, FBI Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have become more useful to the Bureau posing for photo ops than working undercover. Just as Zane is beginning to consider retirement a viable option, Ty receives a distress call from a friend, leading them to a city rife with echoes from the past.

New Orleans wears its history on its streets, and it’s the one place Ty’s face could get him killed. Surrounded by trouble as soon as they land, Ty and Zane are swiftly confronted with a past from which Ty can’t hide — one with a surprising connection to Zane’s.

As threats close in from all directions, both men must come to terms with the lives they’ve led and the lies they’ve told. They soon discover that not all their secrets are out yet, and nothing lasts forever.

Sensational New Installment to the Series
By Sophia Rose
"Zane stared. His heart was pounding. He'd known they had secrets between them, things they weren't ready to share. They'd discussed these things, shady parts of their pasts they'd rather not take out of the box. But Zane had never expected Ty's secrets to be something that could hurt him. Hurt them.
Zane studied his lover, letting that truth settle somewhere deep inside him.
"Tell me now, tell me everything I need to know."
Ty's jaw muscles jumped, but he stayed straight and tall, matching Zane's glare with his own. When he spoke, though, it came out broken. "No."
Zane gritted his teeth and slammed his palm against the wall. "Tell me the truth or I walk!"

Like other Ty and Zane fans, I have feverishly anticipated this book for some time. Having read a few excerpt teasers and followed some of the talk made me realize that the tone of this one would be so much more intense and ominous than possibly anything that has been seen in the series so far. I gathered myself to face whatever the worst was to be and dove in knowing that, no matter what, I just had to find out what happened next for Ty & Zane.

After all the attention their last case brought them, Ty and Zane have become the poster boys of the FBI leaving their status as undercover agents in question. Giving lectures and posing for pictures doesn't set well with either of them so they'll have some thinking to do in their near future especially now that Zane passed his twenty year mark with the Company. They figure as long as they can be together-

However, that all gets set aside when Ty gets a call for help from an old friend that sends the two of them back into Ty's old stomping grounds of New Orleans. Just being there is a risk for Ty because of the way he left things, but he never refuses his friends. When trouble starts to converge on them, that is nothing new, but it is the bringing to light of dark secrets that might be the end of them- both lives and love. Is what they have together strong enough to withstand it?

The plot was a blend of the humor, the passion, the fury, the weakness and the determination that makes up any story about these two heroes. The story takes place in the present with flashbacks into both Ty and Zane's lives that fill in some of the blanks and leave to greater understanding, but also heartbreak for these men. They are strong and capable, but in another sense they are also vulnerable and need each other desperately. Emotions run high in this one that is for sure. The points of view switch back and forth so there is a good dose of what goes on in each man's head, but it is almost a relief from the turbulence when Ty's old marine bud, Nick takes over the story for short scenes. After the reprieve, I was as eager as ever to forge ahead to see just how both the relationship and the danger elements would turn out. Whew baby! That finale and even the denouement kept me absolutely riveted. And yes, I report that there are a couple of staggering future plot threads left dangling in the end. The next installment cannot come soon enough.

As to the characters other than Ty and Zane, it is a reunion of sorts for Ty's old Marine unit, but also with enemies from the past for both men. There are no cardboard cutout characters in this one when it comes to the strong secondary characters. They are all woven into the story with their own back history and emotions present too. Everyone should have friends like these guys though that would mean as a group being forged in fire and coming out strong.

It wasn't all heavy stuff. I just had to share one more quote.
"Ty laughed, a carefree, boyish sound, and glanced to his side, distracted by what he saw. "You moved the rug."
"I kitty-cornered it."
"Why would you do that?" Ty asked, aghast.
"To see you lose your s*** when you got home." Zane leaned closer, grinning evilly. "There are other things out of order too. Books not alphabetized. Coffee mug handles facing different directions." He lowered his voice to a whisper as Ty's eyes widened in horror. "The closet isn't color coded."
"You're just watching the world burn, huh?"
Zane laughed.
"God I missed you." Ty said in a rush of breath."

Two recommendations here: If you haven't given this fabulous series a try and you enjoy strong male leads in action romance, then you need to get busy and start reading these- beg, borrow or steal if you have to (kidding, sort of). If you're a fan, get this the second you can and make sure you have lots of time set aside to read because you won't want to lay it down once it gets going.

The gold standard for m/m romance
By Jen (Red Hot Books)
If you have ever taken my advice about anything, trust me when I tell you this is one of the very best romance series out there. Not just the best m/m. The best. Period. If you are not reading this series, you are missing out on what romance is all about. Two people who are taking a journey together; people you have invested in. They change; they grow; they screw up; they regress; they love each other in epic fashion. And as a reader, you leave the books with a piece of them still in your heart. Or in the case of this installment... with a piece of your heart missing.

If Stars & Stripes was the book that made you see how far Ty and Zane have come, Touch & Geaux is the one that shows you have far they still have to go. As the story begins, the guys are so happy --things are so good-- there's only one way they can possibly go: down. The fuse is lit when Ty's Marine buddies trick our heroes into a trip to New Orleans.

New Orleans holds memories for both men: Zane for his anniversary trip there with his wife; Ty, for his time there undercover. It takes only hours for their past to jump up and bite them and it come from all sides: Ty's former almost-father-in-law, dirty New Orleans cops, an ex-boyfriend with a questionable agenda; and even killers from the drug cartel where Zane was once undercover. We're talking Danger (with a capital D.)

Yet as powerful as the external conflict is, the real draw here is the internal one. The events of the book prompt the revelation of some very serious secrets. The kind that destroy a relationship. The kind that eradicate months and years of growth.

I remember reading the original Cut & Run and being struck by how damaged the Ty and Zane of that book were. Touch & Geaux shows us that those men we first met are still within our heroes. Take away the foundation of their evolution and you're back to a big fat mess. Only now, it breaks your heart. Now you know Ty and Zane (or at least you think you do.) You love them. So their self-destruction isn't only devastating to them, it's devastating to... me. The lies --the betrayal-- feels so personal. Yet all this love is still there, so then what?

I'll tell you. Then, after all emotional upheaval and story development, Abigail Roux leaves you with one last parting shot, a kick to the gut that left me with tears in my eyes and pain in my chest.

Maybe all this downer talk makes you question whether you want to read the book. But that would be the wrong question. What you need to ask yourself is, why I haven't I read this already?

Abigail Roux should be the benchmark by which all books are measured.

Rating: A

P.S. All that and I didn't even talk about the sex! (*fans self*) It really says something that as hot as the sex was, it was almost an afterthought.

It deserves 6 stars
By Center
IMO, this book combines all the best elements of the last 6 and multiplies by 10! The damage, fury, and desperation we saw of Ty and Zane in C&R, the insecurity of S&S1 and D&C, the rollercoaster action of A&D, and even a few loving sweet reveals like in F&C and S&S2. It's shocking, heartbreaking, touching, and a real rollercoaster ride. I was reading by the seat of my pants, with my heart in my throat and my stomach in my shoes the entire time. And I am really not exagerating. I kept having to take breaks, it was so intense and my eyes were red from crying. It takes alot to get me to cry from reading a book, and so far I haven't cried with any of the others. I'm honestly shocked I loved it so much as I don't normally enjoy really angsty reads.

I started to become really invested in these two since F&C, and that has only increased with each additional book. It made all the reveals in Touch and Geaux that much more heartbreaking. I have never had such a visceral response to a fictional couple (Jack and D from "Zero at The Bone" came close). I've said this before, these guys are on an epic journey, and never more apparent than here. And the last chapter, I cannot even describe my state of mind when I finished. I guess shock, then more tears, then "OMG Abigail Roux can write a story!" But Ty and Zane do come out much stronger in the end and you don't question their feelings for each other as they are stronger than ever. I just hope when all is said and done they get a peaceful happy ending, HFN is fine. it's the only way I'll be able to stay out of therapy! :-). Orrrrrrr maybe it's because they love each other so totally despite EVERYTHING, and the author does such a great job of selling that, making me not only believe but care. I'm rooting hard for these two.

And now I must take a break from reading, because I know when I've had this type of reading experience, everything else pales in comparison.

Ty and Zane... wow.

If you're new to the series, and wondering if you should start, 2 things: 1) read them in order, starting with Cut and Run (although each book has a separate mystery/plot, the entire series is one long relationship story arc and there are a lot of layers that would be missed) and 2) I envy you, oh to be reading these for the first time! The editing gets better as you go, and by Fish and Chips, you should be thoroughly addicted :-).
